if we have to keep putting adjectives in front of the word “conservative” (solid, full-throated) then we have lost the meaning of the word. As for me, I am not a hyphenated conservative.
I was a staunch Teddy Cruz supporter at first and hoped for a Trump/Cruz ticket. I was wrong. Now I am wondering if those 3 ever were conservatives. Maybe it was all an act to win elections.

I doubt that is actually true. I've learned from watching the senate that they are all friends and part of the uni-party establishment.
The "conservative" or "liberal" acts are all just for public consumption to appease the masses back home.
You can't go by voting records either as those are easily gamed. We've seen congressmen lobby and contribute to a bill and then vote against it once it has enough support to pass.
