Last I’d heard the kill switch does more that fry the detonation components.
It sets of the charges mis-timed to set off a nuclear reaction, but not a full explosion. Something closer to a few pounds of high explosive followed by a melt down and the nuclear materials degraded below where they could be reworked into a crude bomb.
Bad news for anyone withing a kilometer or so down wind...
