Biggest problem in the Southwest; Arizona and elsewhere is that the drug cartels basically control the border. Who goes over and who does not. This from an official she interviews.
They smuggle meth, opium, heroin,pot, coke, people, you name it.Bigger problems are they now use kids as drugmules.Kids as young as 13 have been busted and jailed. Problem is if you don't jail the kids just like the adults you have no border security.
The border is described by one official as The Wild West with the smugglers going anywhere there is little resistance.
Ironically, in the places where they do have fencing the idiots in dc do not allow barbed wire since it might hurt some of the smugglers coming across. Go figure. More ROE's,rules of engagement not going our way. We now have an administration that is OK with drugs or terrorists!They need to go.
Another problem is that the cartel stages their operations immediately near the border where there is little resistance. In addition they get cooperation from the local mexicon govt. probably from all levels.
The drug smugglers have gotten so sophisticated they have car ladders that go completely over the fence and you can literally drive a car over the fence and onto us soil.
Some areas within the US in decline in the US over half the homes have been broken into more than once by smugglers. Basically, the will to stop the drug smuggling is not there in dc accd. to spokesmen she interviews.
