The moderate Muslims need our help, not our pity. They rose up in Iran and Obama refused to help. Obama and the Progresso’s are destroying moderate muslims all over the world. If we won’t even call out the radical muslims, what hope do the moderates have ?
Moderate Muslims have come to the US from many bad situations 30 years ago and more—Muslims fleeing the Ayatollas in Iran, Muslims fleeing Saddam Hussein and his vicious sons; Muslims fleeing Wahabism in Saudi Arabia, Muslims fleeing warfare in North Africa, and on and on.
Now their children are growing up and discovering they are not as happy as they think they should be in the US or Europe. Not very many of them, but enough to be very dangerous. Often the parents are shocked and frightened.

Several months ago there was a piece on FR by a guy who had spent time talking to representatives of each of the groups in Syria. I’m paraphrasing. “The problem the west has is that although some of these groups are milder than the others they all want the same thing. They want to be the only group in control. They believe in the tenants of Islam, which include slavery, beatings, and Sharia law. If any of these groups win there will be a genocide. The only difference is over who gets killed. Anybody who isn’t Muslim will either be killed, enslaved, or reduced to a second class citizen. The victory by any one of these groups, even the so-called “moderates” will be horrendous.”
The problem is they are all Islamic. Islam is a mashup of everything evil in the world. Do we believe that a victory by the Iranian “moderates” would be any different? The reason Iran is now a leading power is not a tribute to Islam. It is a tribute to the truly moderate, secular Shah who educated the entire country and then was betrayed by Jimmy Carter. As for the Syrians, the secular role of the Assad’s was a godsend. True, he had a secret police and they killed people. How else could you control and modernize a country full of people who want to kill everybody else?
The so called moderate muslims should do their own house cleaning.
