Basically, as I see it, the federal “taking” of the large percentage of the land within a Western state, was “bribe” the state paid to the Federal Government as the price for statehood. It was simply theft.

So they can just re neg on the deal they made when they were deeded land that the citizens of the country legally owned?

Nice. How can I get in on that action?

No, just like Trump says, these “deals” need to be renegotiated. The Federal Government today has no business holding on to as much as 85% of a state’s land. The Federal Government uses their “hold” on these lands to promulgate political agendas (like stopping mineral exploration). We’ve already set aside places that need protection from intrusion due to their special nature. We can’t continue to grow and develop with the heavy foot of the Federal Government on the brake pedal.
