Nearly 3,000 soldiers arrested and 2,700 judges fired as Turkey begins punishing those linked to attempted coup. Turkey has begun a purge of soldiers and judiciary officials allegedly connected to an effort to topple the government, one day after a failed military coup attempt.
By Saturday evening, the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had detained 2,839 military personnel, with number of arrests expected to rise, according to Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.
Turkey's top judicial body, the HSYK, dismissed 2,745 judges on Saturday, according to Turkey's Anadolu news agency.

Further, this fellow Gulen in Pennsylvania that Turkey wants turned over is a mystery himself. He’s advertised as a modern man, someone who believes in actual democracy, not sharia. But today we learn he’s got ties with Clinton and Podesta, so who knows?
And, they’re each pointing the finger at each other, saying the other one is behind the coup attempt.
Whatever the case, I’m curious about the timing, why now?
Dry run for something similar here?
Could well be the case. And we know this administration will side with Erdogan before our people in uniform.
What a mess.

Like his other remarks but don’t think Incirlik plays that way. Erd doesn’t want to do anything to drive NATO out- not yet anyway.
A Turkish Air Force tanker flew from there to refuel coup planes so there are clearly some coup supporters there he wants.
Erdogan was trying to patch up things with Putin and was making progress but now it looks to be souring as a result of the coup. Here are a few articles from the Russian press from the last two days. The Turks look to be deluded on this. Compare Moscow’s statements to that of the Turks and there is divergence and the Russians look to be backing off:

Thanks. Just getting more coffee, will read..
In related news, the commander (Turk) of Incirlik has been arrested and the White House has asked the media to stay quiet about anything to do with the base due to ongoing, sensitive talks with Erdogan.
There is a huge, historic realignment in the Middle East.
“The Great Game” has a new participant: China.
Re-establishing the “Silk Road” is the future of the Middle East and all Asia.
Turkey will be the western bulwark of the Silk Road and a major gateway. It’s preparing for that day.
But not as an ultra-Islamacist state,Putin will apply correction.
Iran is probably the most necessary country for the Silk Road. Hardly a “mild islam” nation.
Erd’s desire for more Islamization of Turkey is a political one, not religious. He gets more power. No one needs to deter him from overdoing it.
A ‘big deal’ like the Silk Road doesn’t happen overnight and there are many changes that need to take place.
But there are inherent benefits for all so those who help it get rewarded and those who oppose it pay a price.
