I disagree. For geographical reasons, Turkey is in a critical location. Erdogan has not been supporting our goals in Syria/Iraq because Erdogan fears the Kurds.

If this coup succeeds, the US will recognize the new government even though it has not gained power by democratic means. At that point, it will be more obvious that the US approves.

Unfortunately, it looks like there is a low chance of this coup succeeding, but that is just my opinion.

Well, you got ‘this’ on one hand and ‘that’ on the other.
That is: Erd is good for some things and bad on others for Obama. I think Obama sees him as a net ‘good’.
