Pence did NOT cave to negative media. It was the poorly written material. After state legal staff looked at it and knew it wouldn’t hold up in federal court there was no choice Even the FIX just made it worse.

OK. I just recall one of Pence’s talking points kept justifying the language of the bill by comparing it to the Illinois law without seeming to appreciate that Illinois already had statewide protections against sex discrimination. The Indiana law does not have such language on civil rights and clauses to insert it in the bill were rejected, among other differences. Which gave the impression he wasn’t clued in on some important details that gave other states cover under federal law.
