One year, for my birthday, we went to see PattiLaBelle at the Hollywood Bowl. She was unwatchable as she referred to ‘my people in the cheap seats’ and argued with the security staff when they wouldn’t let a member of the audience come up on stage. She was insulting. We were high up, ‘in the cheap seats’, and were subjected to several gay male couples exhibiting inappropriate PDAs. We left early, but still had to wait for a shuttle bus to go to our car, parked in a remote lot. I had really looked forward to seeing her and it wasn’t a fun birthday celebration for me.
I saw one of the best concerts I have ever attended at The Hollywood Bowl. July 4, ‘97 I think. Glen Campbell. fireworks show afterwards. Seems like a different world back then.
