This street gets very crowded during this day. Fireworks just started. In 1998, when I was there, it was very crowded drunk crowd. Lot of armed officers from Army, local police and other branch. Today, it must be same, should be well protected by armed law enforcement officers.
I was in Nice two months ago. On a normal day, we came across a 4-man French Army fire team in full battle rattle just wandering down the sidewalk near Place Massena, probably half a klick from the Promenade du Anglais. It was a little disconcerting.
