Technically, the language is Castillan. Spain is made up of several different distinct nations, not unlike Great Britain.

If you speak Spanish in Barcelona, and they know you’re from Spain, they will not talk to you unless you speak Catalan.

Well, Elena’s family were hidalgos, or so they always said. I picked up a little spanish from our times together, but usually refuse to acknowledge it to the hispanics / chicanos I sometimes have to deal with.

I suppose some of her attitude towards them rubbed off somewhat over time. :)
