Today an interfaith ceremony was held to honor the five police officers murdered in Dallas last week. Native Texan and former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush sat in the front row as honored guests.
President Bush led the nation after 9/11, somehow finding a way to deliver the right words to a shaken nation and today, in the wake of the worst loss of law enforcement life since that horrible day, he offered words of healing, support and unity to the country.
"Laura and I see members of law enforcement everyday, we count them as our friends," Bush said. "Their courage is our protection and shield. We're proud of the men we mourn and the community that has rallied to honor them and support the wounded. The Mayor and the police department have been mighty inspirations for the rest of the nation."
"With their deaths, we have lost so much. We are grief stricken, heartbroken and forever grateful," he continued. "Each new day can bring new dangers, but none of us were prepared, or could be prepared, for the ambush and shock of hatred and malice."
"To renew our unity we need to remember our values," he said. "We don't want the unity of grief, nor do we want the unity of fear. We want the unity of hope, dignity and high purpose."
"[To the children of those lost] Your loss is unfair, we cannot explain it, but we can stand beside you and share your grief and we can hope God will comfort you with a hope deeper than sorrow."

President Bush Speaks at Memorial Service for Slain Dallas Officers
Bush is a Godsend to this nation. His words lift us up during this tragedy. Very sad that I don’t even want to know what our current president said.
President Bush’s speech was very classy and that is no surprise
But I simply am astounded at how unbelievably inappropriate Obamas remarks were. He went to the memorial service for 5 police officers who were murdered because of careless accusations of racism against police officers ... and he again accused police of systematic racism. He went to the memorial service for officers who were entirely innocent ... and declared that none of us are innocent of racism.
Words cannot express the contempt I have for this vile man. He cannot vacate 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue soon enough.
...
Well said.
You’d be sadder if you knew what the current one said.
I’ll bet I would be.
I only listened to that arrogant pos occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave for 10-15 minutes. Then I couldn’t take it anymore and had to mute my TV.
You’re full of it.
How did Bush do that? So you don't figure the voters had something to do with it? There was plenty known about Obama prior to the election. Many Republicans & Conservatives just stayed home (in 08 & 12), were you one of them?
I’ll take that question........the liberal media that badgered, lied, and destroyed GWB every day of his presidency, ADDED WITH THE ANTI-AMERICAN congress that took a body count every day of his presidency. I can go on. but I doubt you will get it.
Brilliant. Beautiful.
A large part of where we are was because he didn’t stand up and make his case and call out the other side for the lies when he was president. He wanted to get along.
This led us to lose Iraq and the rise of ISIS after Obama pulled out.
In many ways we are at a crossroads as a nation.
So do we need more sanctimonious blather and pious platitudes or grit, resolve and will???
We are at this crossroads not only because of Barack Obama but equally due to the Buffoon who ushered him into the WH; as a consequence of his own catastrophic governance.
Those who chose blather and platitudes should try getting real.
It’s also possible that one shouldn’t throw his or her vote away. Maybe we should realize how we got here, it didn’t happen overnight. We should demand it be fixed, that politicians must be held to the same standards and live under the same laws. Until we do that, things will never change. Having BDS is a comical distraction that solves nothing.
He sure is, unlike that arrogant pos occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Wholeheartedly concur.
I think much less of Bush every time he shows up at anything with Obama or Clinton.
The Democraps and the mandatory sub prime mortgage loans.............
Excellent response.
He showed up for the officers and their families.
Don’t bother celebrating Obama’s leaving until you know who is going to replace him.
It will either be a new beginning or the beginning of the end.
Since my faith in the Electorate is fleeting, I will reserve judgement until the day after the November Election.
