That is why on contact with the deck you go to full power. If you catch a wire you will stop. Period! If you miss you have the power to get back into the air. Landing on a carrier deck is one of the most exciting experiences you can have. At night THE most exciting!

That catching the wire and losing momentum before it snapped made for an iffy proposition of regaining flight speed by the end of the deck. A pure jet might have dipped the tail, as Prop planes have the advantage of higher acceleration at the lower speeds, even though turboprops designs don't employ afterburner.

Should you want a thrill, ride PHI, Inc. or such, off the helideck atop an oil rig. Sometimes they dive the water to jump above the translation speed with a heavy load after loosing the hover cushion of the deck.
