It lies on the shore of Lake Michigan, at the mouth of the St. Joseph River, about 90 miles east-northeast of Chicago.
near Benton Harbor, which ain’t a good place
Sometime very un-PC nickname: Benton Harlem.
There’s no noticeable street rabble in Saint Joseph. Been there numerous times, armed of course with more goodies in car (as everywhere) yet peaceful and great place to visit. Charming, romantic town, even by this courthouse area. Beautiful bluff view, clean beach and water, cobblestone streets, shops, and photogenic. Fountains and decorations. All kinds of neat little things and clean. Major airport and people from all over the country visit there. Benton Harbor been through once it has business area but very deserted and eerie. Some run down homes but nothing shabby as other hellholes.
