Keep both hands in plain view. Know the laws of the state you're in. In Pennsylvania there is no requirement to inform the police that you are carrying concealed. In many states there is a requirement. If the weapon is in the console I wouldn't tell the officer. If it's on my body I would inform the officer that I am armed and tell him where the weapon is located on my body (Usually on my right hip). When he asks for license and registration I would tell him where my wallet is and that I am reaching for it with my left hand as I always carry my wallet in a pocket on the left side. I would inform him that my registration and insurance cards are in the glove box. I would be very polite and respectful during the whole process.

In my 50 years of driving I have been stopped for moving violations maybe a dozen times. I have received 2 tickets. I deserved both. All the other times, though I was guilty, I received either written or verbal warnings. Most of these stops were by state troopers. The two I got tickets for were both small town cops. But even then they were polite and professional.

Cops are human and make mistakes and common sense on your part goes a long way in reducing those.

If a cop takes your gun to “check it” BINGO ... it’s just been registered

I’ve been driving 65 years and have only been stopped twice.

What am I doing wrong? :-)
