SEOULNorth Korea appeared to have unsuccessfully fired a missile from a submarine Saturday, just a day after Washington and Seoul agreed to deploy an advanced missile-defense system in South Korea to counter Pyongyangs threats.
South Koreas defense ministry said North Korea test-fired what it views as a submarine-launched ballistic missileoff the eastern coastal city of Sinpo about 11:30 a.m. local time Saturday.
After its ejection from underwater, the projectile appeared to have failed in its early stage of flight, said a ministry spokesman in Seoul who declined to give further details, including the distance of the flight.
The Souths military was analyzing the nature of the Norths latest missile test, but it strongly condemns the missile test as an outright violation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions that ban Pyongyang from engaging in ballistic-missile activities, he said.
