Years ago a wonderful older black friend told me how he had been raised and it was sad. His elders taught him. “the man (white) ain't going to let you be nuthin’ or do nuthin’”. And for many years that was true and then the government came in and gave them free stuff. That didn't help and now we are here. Wish I had the answer.

So many problems...many of the problems need to be solved within the family, but a lot of black families have been dysfunctional for a couple of generations and there aren't role models there. When Bill Cosby made the big push to get black parents to take responsibility and instill discipline and the value of education in their kids, he was largely vilified by the black community. The same happened when the black mayor of Philadelphia told young black men to stop wearing saggy pants and to speak correct English or they'll never get a decent job.
