In the old days of Whitewater/Foster murder/sexual escapades and coverups etal I referred to guys like Gergen as the Clintonoids.
They are easy to spot—they live in a different dimension and pop up on TV from time to time with wacky defenses of the Clintons.

A variant on “bitter clingers” applied to those of us naive enough to cling to a slender reed of hope that we might still be a nation of laws, at least as far as the nation’s LEOs, the FBI (`Fidelity Bravery Integrity’) was concerned.
Now we’re “embittered partisans”.
