I have an old friend who is a Lefty - his mind is impenetrable on this matter. "It's all the Republicans!" he cries, when I point out that it's the Uniparty doing the Kabuki Dance on this.
Needless to say, I've lost a lot of the former respect that I had for this guy.
Those on the fringes will never change but is not they who decide elections since their vote is known.
Your friend simply refuses to believe anything which conflicts with his established convictions. He is one of those fringe useful idiots we hear about. They exist on both sides.
