Remember that Duterte of the Philippines called Xi of China a "great leader". This UN case was brought by staunch US ally Aquino, who just left office. The U.S.-Philippines alliance might be going up in smoke under Duterte.

Too early to even speculate or criticize new Philippine president what he’d do or not do about Chicom’s land grab. Duterte don’t like obama. Duterte still trying to fix domestic problems he can’t talk tiger yet against Chicom it has to begin from diplomatic channels to tell Chicom they need to vacate the islands.

A 3rd term for Obama will, by dint of budgets and progressivism, lead to a South China Sea controlled by China and an emasculated US Navy presence. This is a new and unnecessary flashpoint made inevitable by several Administrations weak policy towards that infamous ‘bad boy’ North Korea.
