So, what are the details of the EU interfaces between Switzerland and Norway and the EU on these issues?
The European Economic Area (which Norway belongs to) requires adherence to EU regulations and directives. It’s like being a member state without the “voting rights”, which work like the UN does.
Switzerland has “bilateral agreements” which, frankly, benefit the EU more than the descendants of the Helvetii. These include having to observe EU regulations and directives as a condition for participating in that “single market”, and also being part of the Schengen Area.

Excellent point.
Clearly, nations can exist “next to” the EU, and do just fine and get the type of movement/trade deals that they want, given their priorities. They likely get some things they want, and don’t get some things they want. But it’s a negotiated deal between sovereigns. Not an unnegotiated deal imposed by unelected unaccountable bureaucrats...none of whom are speaking up for the unique member states, but just have the Uni-Europe agenda.
