EU spells out conditions for single market access to Britain

European Union leaders drew a stark line along the British Channel on Wednesday, telling the U.K. that it cannot keep valuable business links with its former continental partners in a seamless single EU market, if it doesn’t also accept European workers.

The challenge cuts to the heart of the British vote to leave the bloc following a virulent campaign where migration from poorer EU countries was a key concern. It also sets the scene for the complex departure negotiations facing departing Prime Minister David Cameron’s successor, for which nominations opened in London Wednesday.

Meeting for the first time without the U.K., the 27 other EU nations set out a united strategy to face the next British government which will seek to salvage as many of the EU rights as possible while reneging on a maximum amount of obligations.

They emerged from the summit insisting that the “four freedoms” central to European unity are indivisible: the free movement of people, services, goods and finances. …

And England will reply with it’s requirements for EU access to it’s market.

Then they can negotiate.

AP sure is presenting an especially stupid narrative on Brexit!

One of the EU presidents. Junker is another.

I consider the EU to be a more dangerous entity to the USA than Russia is.

Their propensity to act like petty fascists illustrates my concern.

So, what are the details of the EU interfaces between Switzerland and Norway and the EU on these issues?”

Excellent point.

Clearly, nations can exist “next to” the EU, and do just fine and get the type of movement/trade deals that they want, given their priorities. They likely get some things they want, and don’t get some things they want. But it’s a negotiated deal between sovereigns. Not an unnegotiated deal imposed by unelected unaccountable bureaucrats...none of whom are speaking up for the unique member states, but just have the Uni-Europe agenda.

Please come out and say what you mean. You’re saying Trump loves Junker? Are you and the Oleg poster saying Trump loves or supports the EU?

Hmm. You’ve been here longer than I and you violate the gentleman’s agreement of “ping the person you’re talking about”?

I’ve never said a single thing about Trump and his views on the EU. FWICS, though, he has come out strongly on the side of Britain and against the EU. By contrast, Obama (Mr. “Back Of The Queue”) is strongly pro-EU, which of course puts the lie to his opposition to so-called white colonialism; he obviously approves of that so long as it is leftists leading that charge.

Donald Tusk is one of the presidents of the EU.

Jean-Claude Juncker is another president of the EU (and it would appear, a big part of the problem.)

Donald Trump is a candidate for president of the United States.

Tusk and Juncker are unreasonable and unaccountable technocrats.

Trump has nothing to do with them or the hard line they are both taking with the UK.

Someone else spoke up for you; your brother, perhaps. The person indicated Trump loves Junker, which is an insult to Trump and associating Trump with Junker positively has no place on FR. Who did you call "Donald Tusk" and what does he "loves Germany" mean? It seemed to 1. be making fun of his name, as a neverTrumper/Cruzer would, and 2. it seemed to imply that you were saying he loves Germany, in some way related to Germany's Merkel or their primacy in EU.

Yes, you haven't been here long enough to know that you should make yourself clear, especially at a time such as this. JR has made clear how he feels, and it would be rude, for starters, to impugn Donald Trump, using FR to do it.

Perhaps being new here, you didn't know to leave a sarcasm tag? If I am wrong, you can explain. Who is "Donald Tusk" and why does he love Germany as you said in your post?

I apologize. I misread that. I see a lot of Cruzers on FR still, so I am a little sensitive and didn’t think that one through.
