Thomas Sowell well-covered this type of thinking 20 years ago in
The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy

Sowell presents a devastating critique of the mind-set behind the failed social policies of the past thirty years. Sowell sees what has happened during that time not as a series of isolated mistakes but as a logical consequence of a tainted vision whose defects have led to crises in education, crime, and family dynamics, and to other social pathologies. In this book, he describes how elitesthe anointedhave replaced facts and rational thinking with rhetorical assertions, thereby altering the course of our social policy.
Highly recommended, as spot-on today as it was then.
An excellent book
Thanks
I was once a fan of Sowell (and some other #NeverTrumpers), but his vitriol against a Trump and the movement has made Sowell, et al., dead to me. I (and I would argue my country and Western civilization) no longer have the luxury of being ideological. I am guided by my fundamental beliefs and principles and battle assessment. Trump, this brazen and brash billionaire who’s not afraid of anyone, has been like the sunglasses in John Carpenter’s movie, “They Live”. People I once thought were my allies I’ve come to realize are every bit my enemy.
If you look at “Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed” by Jared Diamond, and then you look at “The Vision of the Anointed” and realize that things aren’t likely to get better with regards to what Sowell brings up, then you can see that the West has chosen to fail.
The West will fail. The only question is when. I’m making sure me & my own are self-sufficient when everything goes wooly.
