LONDON The British people just did something sensible: They decided their own national and economic sovereignty is vital in determining their future and rejected the notion that a bunch of well-educated bureaucrats in Brussels who run the European Union know how to run a small business in East London or Manchester or set trade policy for a great island nation.
Now, say the elites, comes the roof-falling-in part.
God forbid the average Brit should have some say in an immigration policy, which thanks to the EU diktat now mandates an open-borders regime that could make Donald Trumps hair turn another color because its transforming the country economically and culturally in ways that make many Brits feel uncomfortable.
Fretting about immigration, though, is racist, or so the agitprop went. Expect to hear more of that for some time.
Full disclosure: I, too, believed the markets and the bookies, so lump me in with those alleged smart guys who got it wrong for the simple reason that we couldnt believe common sense would prevail. I, for one, couldnt see how the over-the-top proselytizing of the Remain campaign could be matched by the subtler, albeit more sensible, logic of the Leave campaign,

“Quality of Life” is a wealth ... it’s the one the ‘elites’ are attempting to steal from citizens.
If I’m forced to live in a neighborhood where I’m afraid to go out at night - and mildly uncomfortable around my neighbors - I’ve been robbed of what makes life pleasant.
It’s not worth the trade off corrupt elites offer - the trade off of ‘giving up the sweetness of life’ in order to be able to buy cheap junk from China.
If I remember correctly, about twenty five years ago either 60 MINUTES or 20/20 did an expose on the European Union governing body titled THE GRAVY TRAIN.
Anyone remember it?
Are you SURE it wasn’t titled DC the GRAVY TRAIN????
Donald needs to start talking in common sense terms about his policies and quit wavering.
The majority of the voters have little knowledge about the effects of globalism or the sinister motives of the various groups on the left and the betrayal by the right.
A whole lot of accurate tweets of educational nature could do a lot of good.
“La Raza’s now scrapped slogan was “everything for the race. For the non race nothing.”
Mother of Benghazi hero “Hillary lied to our face about cause of attack over film. She said was terrorists in previous email.
Very well put!!
I have not read all the threads, but our last trip to London last year and three years before that were ones that I was glad to see the city but after last year not wanting to go back. The rapid change in immigration was evident and after sundown we were not as free to move around the city and feel really safe. Subways were full of Muslims who were not friendly and would barge to the trains even if you were in line before them so we shoved back! Just rude. I am thrilled they chose to take freedom back and know that with each step forward one sometimes has to take a hit for a bit and I think it will be a short one in time...or hope so...as I think other countries will take theirs back to and kick the liberal leadership back to deal with their new immigrants!
The reaction is turning out to be as interesting as the election itself. It isn’t any real surprise that the reaction of the statist Left is to overturn the election results by hook or by crook, but the passion with which the media are reacting to their perceived loss of influence is rather astonishing. One is accustomed to the attitude, but not to what appears to be a universal conviction. It is the reaction of the EU government itself writ small but very, very loud. “How dare the voters do this?”
Hope someone can find it ... talk about being ‘ahead of your time’...
This reminds me of Prop 13 passing in California back in the late '70s. I was there then and voted for it. The pols were saying that they'd have to shut down the fire departments, libraries, etc. - but not one mention of cutting back on state salaries.
A year from now we will be reading the Media reporting, with some amazement, "Gee, nothing THAT bad happened."
The media? On the contrary, the British media (at least the national daily press) were overwhelmingly pro-Brexit and are now gloating.
The Beeb is in deep mourning. Check them out.
