If his parents failed him they will live with it. Drugs are almost never a solitary form of destruction. Other people live with the addiction and results.

We need to abandon the idea of a set-and-forget life on a self willed cruise control as it were. Life was intended by God to be a dynamic relationship between a person and God. God constantly thinks about the person; it is unseemly for the person not to attempt to return the favor.
