The prospect of holding a second EU referendum could be debated in Parliament in coming weeks after a petition topped the 100,000 target within hours of the result being declared.
It was so popular that the Government petition website hosting the motion crashed this morning.
The petition demands the Government re-stage the referendum because the winning vote for Leave was less than 60 per cent and was based on a turnout of less than 75 per cent.

How much did the last one cost ?
In the US when progressives lose a referendum, they don’t need a do-over. All they need is a court to overturn the referendum result as unconstitutional.
Yes, that is true.
As well they should. Time to defend their civilization.
The left will hold elections until they win. Civil war brewing between marxists/muzzies against John Bull patriots.
The big fish will sell off and drive the market down. The smaller fish will sell off because they are worried. The big fish will scoff up a bunch of bargains and make a ton of money. And the patriots in England will be blamed for it.
See if you tank the DOW another 700 points?
“Are either or both of those thresholds required?”
No.
This is utterly insane.... and anyway, if higher turnout and super-majorities are to be required they should be required for to JOIN/(REMAIN) in a trans-national sovereignty destroying monstrosity like the EU.
The idea that the EU is the default position and UK national sovereignty requires some special justification is so obscene it could only have been concocted by demented leftists.
And, the Eurocrats are going to force Britain back into the EU with what for troops? Fact is, at this point in time, they don't have any, and if even only a few of the other exit movements in European nations succeed, then they never will have them. If France, the Netherlands, or Denmark goes, even one of them, the whole EU thing is seriously weakened, if they all go, it's over.
The Eurocrats have some real problems from here on in. Brussels would have been taken far more seriously, had they actually worked on getting some political stability in their own front yard (Belgium), than nanny stating over toasters and tea kettles, as it stands, they are a joke, a rather expensive one, to be sure, but a joke nonetheless...

But, but, they ain’t a representative republic, they’re a “democracy” and that means a 20,000,001 to 20,000,000 carries....
Neither does tyranny.
Paging Jimmy Carter.
You can’t even divide this along party lines. I would say that a third of liberal party folks are supporting the leave-effort.
I'm glad it didn't take long to figure this one out.
Okay, but this time the referendum is on staying and must get 60% of 75% of registered voters....
