DALLAS Fire officials say more than 30 people attending a Tony Robbins event in Dallas have been treated for burns after the motivational speaker encouraged them to walk on hot coals.
Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans says five people were taken to a hospital Thursday night and that emergency personnel treated the others at the scene for burns to their feet and lower extremities.
The hot coals were spread outside the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center as part of a Robbins seminar called "Unleash the Power Within." The event continues through Sunday.
Representatives for Robbins didn't immediately return messages Friday.

Exactly. It also has a lot to do with the order in which you transit the coals. Hint: take the pole position.
If enough people transit the hot coals, the "cold" tops of the coals will get smashed into the actually hot, hot coals and everyone thereafter will get burned, even those with the peace of Buddha.
.
How do they convince the monkeys to walk over hot coals?
Oh, wait. Read too fast.
in 1997 we were encouraged at our job to go see him in NYC and were given tickets at a reduced price...so i went...and i stayed for two hours and said “this is complete BS and a waste of my $$$” then left...
basically i got what i expected..
Exactly!
Yep. Looks like Lurch’s believers didn’t wait long enough and the coals flared:
“There’s a reason the bag tells you to wait until the coals are covered in gray ash. A fire that might seem moderately hot while the coals still have some black will very rapidly rise to inferno levels as the coals continue to ignite.”
He’s a clean cut Rasputin in every way
What idiot walks on hot coals?
The lawsuit was great publicity for McDonalds and their coffee. Paying the plaintiff was less expensive than an ad campaign for their coffee. And the news story got more attention than an ad campaign would.
um... the other 29 people were too stupid to not do it after the first on burned themselves?
My mind used to say why shucks go ahead you can snort that rail spells your first middle and last name plus jr.
It won’t kill you it’s mind over matter.
Determination has limits
“Most people dont spill 190 degree coffee in their lap. But its a risk when selling to people at a drive-thru window.”
No, it’s a risk when the stupid woman sticks the coffee BETWEEN HER KNEES while sitting in the front seat of a (stopped) car and tries to take the lid off by clumsily pulling the far side of the lid TOWARDS her (for some dumb reason). The sweatpants she was wearing at the time absorbed the coffee and this is mainly what caused the injuries to be more severe than they would have otherwise been.
And the $20,000 was what she initially offered to SETTLE for, it was not what she sued for.
Super Stupid

Signing a waiver does not magically eliminate the prospect of a successful lawsuit. As my sister explained to me while going through law school, “You can’t sign away your rights.” Like everything after the legal profession gets done with it, the details are complex. The law may vary from state to state. Perhaps an attorney with better knowledge can explain further, but signing a waiver does not give the protected party a pass to do anything they want to someone who’s signed.
Sorry for the double post.
