They never did. The UK never joined the Euro. They never gave up their currency and central bank. They didn’t pay for any bailout.
The only thing they are doing now is cutting off their access to the biggest market in the world.
Thank goodness They are making a statement of sovereignty regarding the control and influence of immigration. Why does this situation upset you so much?

Well they are also getting out from the heavy hand of the Brussels Bureaucratic Regulatory Machine in favor of independence and self government. Yes, there is a trade off. Steve Forbes, who I greatly admire, agrees with you but I like the idea of independence from excessive regulatory foreign regimes.
