Harry was a different type of Democrat compared to what we have today. Truman loved his country and wanted to do what was best for it. The story is when he left the White House he and Bess drove back to Missouri in there own car. He was/is a good man.
A commoner’s vehicle broke down out front of Truman’s house. After a lengthy attempt at fixing the vehicle, the Truman’s offered the man a bed in their house for the night. Upon leaving the next day, the stranded man says to Truman- You know what, you look a lot like that son of a bitch Harry Truman. Harry Truman says- I am that son of a bitch.
We stopped by their house one day. Except for the plaque on the yard. It was just like any other on the block. Very humble man
