This was the day the British people defied their jailers
The Telegraph ^ | June 24,2016 | Tim Stanley

Why did they do it? That, we’ll pick apart in the next few weeks. I think that Leave genuinely ran the better campaign, more hopeful and upbeat.

Immigration mattered a great deal – although one YouGov poll ranked it third behind democracy and the economy. It’s possible that voters grasped the essential point about this referendum better than we the commentators did.

It was a vote of confidence in Britain. Should we run our affairs or should we delegate it to foreign bureaucrats? When I was leaving my polling station, I said to a chap: “I found voting quite emotional.” He replied that this was the day we got our freedom back. That’s how it feels for millions of Britons.

Not how it feels, perhaps, for Londoners or Scots. We’ve seen a new division emerge within our country. Scotland increasingly defines its politics as Left-wing and Europhile. London is simply a different country: the metropolis triumphant. The young may have overwhelmingly voted Remain, too – but, hey, they will grow older someday. The young who voted Remain in 1975 overwhelmingly voted Leave in 2016. In part, perhaps, because they didn’t like being characterised as ancient bigots by the Remain side. Top tip for winning future elections: don’t call the electorate “thick” or “losers”. It, er, turns them off.

What happens now? We drink. We be happy. We sing a song. Then we piece back the country and get on with the great project of building the British century. We voted the right way because we’re a nation with a sense of destiny. The world is ours now. Go get it.

Love that picture, but let's not be smug.
There are going to be real world punitive measures taken against the voters.

even though only 52 percent voted to leave, a lot more want to.

There was a hard 40 percent to leave and about 20-25 percent that wanted to leave but were worried about the economic fallout.

There is less than 40 percent in Britain that drink the EU koolaid

It’s time for Americans to exercise their independence and leave Barack’s islamic caliphate.

Listened to CCTV news which was a rebroadcast which occurred while the polls were open. The media on that station was making such bizarre statements that I thought maybe I had turned on MSNBC, CNN or one of the lame stream media stations in the U.S. by mistake. Really interesting to listen to them as they were heavily engaged in their speculation that the exit would not occur after it already had.

Yes, we were told for the last 20 years “Americans don’t want to have that discussion...”

BEE ESS

Politicians didn’t want to have that discussion, plain and simple.

Trump is also the only candidate who has bravely taken the popular stance that radical Islamic Muslim terrorism is evil.

Nonsense, both Carson and Cruz did, and a lot earlier than Trump did. In fact they pretty much all did, save Jeb. Taking a popular stance doesn't require bravery though, bravery is what is required when you have to take an unpopular stance. Anyone can take the popular route without suffering repercussions. It's easy. Nor does its popularity imply it is right. Something is either right or it is not, regardless of whether or not people like it. In fact, the right thing is usually the least popular option. But in this Trump is by no means unique.

Despite his flaws, David Cameron is a giant of a man compared to zero.

Nope. Trump stood up and said I'll ban Muslims from coming this country. Ted Cruz replied wimpy, that's not my policy. He never got on board any of Trump's taboo breaking policies until after Trump had made it safe to do so.

Imagine if all of your strong and adventurous people emigrated, leaving only the fat and disabled.

You're imagining Scotland.

Wonder if the Muslim mayor is another indication of maybe something?

Area by area, London had the highest Remain vote in U.K. (apart from Scotland). So no surprise there, the two results accord.

Not that many. According to wiki. 87.1% are white. Others are mainly in the large metropolitan areas.

The EU is mainly about economics. According to wiki:

"The EU traces its origins from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and the European Economic Community (EEC), formed by the Inner Six countries in 1951 and 1958, respectively."
