Recovering sovereignty of the Falkland Islands remains a permanent and unrelinquished objective of the Argentine people, the countrys foreign minister said Thursday, calling for negotiations over the dispute over the wind-swept archipelago to be resolved through negotiations.
Britain, meanwhile, rejected any discussion over sovereignty despite a United Nations committees adopting a non-binding resolution calling for a negotiated solution.
Susana Malcorra told the Special Committee on Decolonization that the concept of self-determination is not absolute and did not apply in the case of the Falklands because the current inhabitants had been placed there by Britain after they seized the islands in 1833. [ ]
The 2013 referendum in which 99.8 percent of those who voted wanted to maintain their current status sent a clear message that the people of the islands do not want dialogue on sovereignty. Argentina should respect those wishes, the British Mission to the U.N. said in an emailed statement.

Send in the muzzies and Iran can claim the Falklands.
So true. We are about to be left with a swarm of silly littoral “combat” ships, a carrier fleet that is mostly offline for put off maintenance and by lack of wings to deploy on them, and a fleet of short legged, low payload, helpless F-35s.
Today the Japanese or Indian navy could literally destroy the RN in an afternoon.
And like us, the RN suffers from something worse. The Brit sailors who were captured within -sight- of their mother warship and came home wearing burkas. Our sailors who surrendered to the Iranians and acted submissive.
We have both lost the spirit of naval combat such as the Battle of Samar.
While I don't support any socialist government, even our own; If you're implying that I support the socialist government of England less than the socialist government of Argentina, you are correct.
As someone who has visited both countries, I can tell you unequivocally that we as Americans have more in common with the Argentines than we do with the British.
But look, I knew I'd take flak on this thread for my beliefs, so I'll shut up, and let you have your pro British love fest.
Jolly Good
Well, you are not correct.
Socialist Argentina does not have a valid claim to the Falklands. Nor did Argentina prior to that ever assert such a claim.
Sorry; meant to say with all due respect.
If memory serves, The islands had already been colonized / occupied by the British before Argentina was a nation.
Bomb the Argies
I think the Exocet hitting the Sheffield had reverberations worldwide.
I bet navies everywhere began to question ship protection.
Then you are an ignorant dumb SOB. You have no clue about the history of the Falkland Islands and no clue about the history of the region including Argentina’s illegitimate claim.
Educate yourself.
No, they were not. They were never, ever, part of Argentina.
Well that's a phony objective - you can't "recover" something that was never yours to begin with. Argentina never, ever had sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. They've never even inhabited them!
Again, you have no clue about what you are ignorantly spewing.
How can they be occupiers? Do you know the history of the Falkland Islands?
You are not advocating anything but ignorance of the historical reality of the situation.
I don’t care where you’ve “visited” or who you believe we have more in common with. Your position reeks of an arrogant POS liberal who “feels” they are in the “right” due to their superior “moral” stance.
You are not as intelligent as you believe you are, IMO.
Had the Argies taken the safeties off their bombs it may have turned out differently.
It cost $500k PER RESIDENT to rescue the Falklands back in 82’. Do the residents have that much say in their wishes? I say give them all a sheep farms in their choice of the Commonwealth. The U.S. takes over and uses it as a penal colony for 99 rears then turns it over to the Argentines. Win, win, win.
Another incredibly stupid post.
You put a numerical value on freedom.
You sir, are an asshole, IMO.
The fact that they lost that unprovoked war as well pretty much settled the issue.
Ya, ya ya. Go grovel you your Royal Masters.
I call for negotiations
