Not even the loss of the then Confederate capitol of Vicksburg the day after the battle of Gettysburg convinced him to quit. Vicksburg was never the Confederate capitol. You're confusing it with Montgomery, Alabama.

Thanks for the clarification. Capturing this vital port city not only gave the North control of the Mississippi River, geographically it split the Confederacy in two. This should have further shown those two treasonous scoundrels Lee and Davis that further bloodshed was useless.
