So, who didn’t vote?

Kagan. Otherwise it would have been 5-3.

I remember when Affirmative Action programs were first proposed. They were supposed to be a temporary remedy to correct long term wrongs. I guess no one ever determined what “Temporary” meant. It’s been 50 years and the anti-white discrimination has been institutionalized. It didn’t work and it’s impossible to get rid of. Much like many government employees.

And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.

This can always come back to bite them when some universities will give preference to white males...

BTW, why doesn’t the republican contrilled Texas government do sething about this - such as cut off funding for the university?

Affirmative action admission to college hurts the blacks.

There is a very interesting and readable book called Mismatch that documents how blacks are put at a disadvantage by AA. The students get thrown into classes with regular admits who have SAT scores 300 points higher. They get further and further behind and the drop out rate is high. Students who would have thrived at a less competitive school end up dropping out. Those that do manage to graduate have the stigma of an AA admittance.

One of the authors is Stuart Taylor who has also written about the Duke Lacrosse case.

Perhaps the reason for that would be that every Regent at the University of Texas was appointed by a Republican governor.

And, don’t forget that the Justice who wrote the majority opinion was appointed to the Court by a Republican.

Animals. All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others. These corrupt and evil judges refuse to follow the law; we’re all _equal_ under the law, equal protection, equal opportunity; unless you’re a white male.

So, if affirmative action was created to combat institutionalized discrimination in the admittance of blacks, and it is the institution itself that is bending over backwards and will do just about anything to artificially inflate the admittance of said minorities, does not logic dictate that their is no institutionalized discrimination that needs to be corrected?

As every member of UT’s Board of Regents who promulgated this outrageous procedure for admission were appointed by either republican governors, Abbott or Perry, there seems to be no way to change left wing policies even through election of those who mouth conservative principals.
