Brent Scowcroft, top foreign policy advisor to four GOP presidents, endorses Clinton

Brent Scowcroft, the national security advisor to President George H.W. Bush and one of the leading figures of the Republican national security establishment, endorsed Hillary Clinton for president Wednesday.

The endorsement is the most high-profile indication yet of the depth of discomfort that Republican foreign policy figures feel about Donald Trump as their party's nominee.

The Clinton campaign sees doubts about Trump's ability to handle foreign policy as a major plus for their side. Endorsements by well-known Republican foreign policy figures could add to her advantage on that front.

"The presidency requires the judgment and knowledge to make tough calls under pressure," Scowcroft said in a statement in which he did not mention Trump's name. Clinton "has the wisdom and experience to lead our country at this critical time."

Scowcroft, 91, served in senior positions under Presidents Ford and Reagan, in addition to his post in the first President Bush's White House. He served as an informal advisor to President George W. Bush, although his public warnings against going to war in Iraq distanced him from the administration.

My Dad died at 88.During his "prime",and even into his later years, was a *very* smart and *very* sharp man.But in his final few years he slipped dramatically...to the point where he was just a shadow of his former self.

And this endorsement comes from a 91 year old.

“That depends on who gets to write the history.”

Yes, but I personally believe it is inevitable that people like this fall from grace and that their political coalitions collapse - thus, it won’t be their camp writing it.

Clintons and Bushes are exactly the same, this is just more proof. If you loved W, you’ll love Hillary.

I’m waiting for W to flat out endorse Hillary. His mother already did (by saying she didn’t know how a woman could vote for Trump). Jeb! will just probably stay in his room, throwing a petulant temper tantrum.

At the end of your life, do you really want to enter into eternity with the stamp of support the most pro-abortion politician in history? Someone who espouses social policies which are in direct contradiction to Christian values? I guess it wouldn’t be a problem if you don’t not believe in an afterlife and Judgment Day.

Scowcroft was born March 19, 1925, in Ogden, Utah, to Lucile Scowcroft (formerly Ballantyne) and James Scowcroft, a grocer and business owner.[1] He is a descendant of early 19th-century British immigrants from England and Scotland, along with immigrants from Denmark and Norway. He considers himself a “religious and cultural heritage” Mormon, if not a formal follower of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).[2]

So it looks as though he’s not a regular churchgower.
