Apparently you missed the part about the dealership blowing him off three times:
One of them bought his past four vehicles from Gaudets Volkswagen store, part of the AutoServ Dealer Group in Tilton, N.H., and had been back to the VW dealership three times since the diesel scandal erupted in September for guidance on what to do with his diesel vehicle as trade-in time approached. Each time, Gaudet says, his dealership told the customer to hang tight until more was known.
He didnt show up a fourth time, Gaudet said. I happened to run into him, and he was driving a Honda.
If my dealership blew me off three times, especially after the manufacturer they represent got caught fudging the data on the car I bought, I would walk as well. Who wouldn't? Is customer loyalty supposed to be some kind of suicide pact? Is it not a two-way street? My Hondas have all been top notch, BTW.
“They screwed customers a few years back with the engine sludge fiasco in the 1/8 l engines I believe. “
They also screw their customers with front end plastic and sheetmetal that falls off. I spent $.75 a pop for dozen of screws to try and keep the front end in place on our daughter’s Jetta. And the POS quit on her between Barstow and Mojave in the middle of summer when the crank trigger decided that it was too hot and quit sending the engine timing information. We had to drive 400 miles to rescue her only to find out that as soon as the sun went down the little bastard started working again. That Jetta was the biggest piece of crap I’ve ever seen.
“As for cars, My 2006 Vibe is so good, with virtually no repairs over 250,000 miles, that Ive had both of my daughters buy Vibes too.”
You mean your Toyota Corrolla with funny sheetmetal on it. I watched Vibes and Corollas being built side by side in the NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA where they now build Teslas.
Yea, I know. Biggest mistake GM made was not continuing the NUMMI project and moving that car to Chevrolet.
Next weekend, I’ll be taking it on a 1200 mile road trip. No worries.
They already had the car as a Chevy with the original sheet metal. It was called the Geo Prizm and later the Chevy Prizm. People didn’t buy them much toward the end and GM decided to replace it with their Cobalt.
All points that are valid and known - The 4L60 transmission is even phrased as being “derived”.
The X5 has lots of issues - like I said, everyone is pointing me away from it.
I compared it to others in that era and price range, and found it to be the best choice for my wife to drive. Right now she drives a Cherokee (Which is the greatest thing as far as toughness) but she plowed it into a pole. The advanced ABS systems were elemental in this choice.
I compare my 325CI to my old Supras (Like.. 80s old). The vehicles are really similar and I would buy another Supra in half a heartbeat. I had to factor in that the BMW is hard to maintain, but overall easier than my Supra dreams.
“Apparently you missed the part about the dealership blowing him off three times:”
You absolutely correct, I missed that whole part. I should prolly keep my opinions to myself until I’m out of work and not too distracted to comprehend.
Lets see. My diesel got 45 mpg on the highway.
Fuel is at most 30% more expensive although right now it’s almost the same (here the price generally 2.19 for reg or diesel).
AND the engine is good for 200k.
What is the fix?
Wait on VW to provide a fix (which they haven’t and they may not ever for the non-DEF models, which means they’d have to buy the cars back and crush them) or sell the car out of state is the only solution set available if you have an affected TDI in CA.
The 4L60 predates the X5 by about 15 years. It was never installed in the X5, the X5 had a BMW designed 5 speed transmission that was made by GM France under contract. The two share NOTHING in common!!!!
Alright .. this is strange.
I was about to delve into my piles of websites and papers on the matter, proving my point about the overstock use of the 4l60e in certain 2005-2007 X5s. I even recall craigslist ads for “.. with desirable 4l60e transmission”.
But I’ve got NOTHIN. I’m looking for a gas leak in my house now, or some way to leverage “The Mandela” effect garbage.
You are absolutely right. I must have dreamed all of this crap.
My Rabbit GTI is 1900 lbs. Lots of fun.
That proves my point, thanks. You’re getting 40%+ less fuel mileage and you’re saving about 20 cents a gallon at the most right now.
Diesels last a lot longer than gasoline engines, which also makes them more economical. They are also more fun to drive with all the extra torque. Well, they were before this fiasco, but if you reprogram it, you can make it even better.
Alas, the VW TDIs do have problems in recent years with fuel pumps and dpf issues, but if you live in a free state without any Nazi emission laws, you can get rid of the dpf and there are some fixes to at least mitigate the fuel pump issues.
