Eleven people were killed and at least 42 more - including a 3-year-old boy - were wounded in shootings across the city between Friday evening and early Monday, according to Chicago Police.

The most recent homicide happened early Monday on the South Side. A 22-year-old man was shot in the back about 1:30 a.m. and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

About 1:30 p.m., someone used a high-powered assault rifle to kill a 17-year-old boy outside a Catholic church in the Back of the Yards neighborhood during Sunday Mass. The boy was walking outside Holy Cross Church when a light-colored Saturn drove by and someone inside opened fire, striking him multiple times. He died at the scene.

A 3-year-old boy was critically wounded in a Sunday evening shooting in Woodlawn.

He was in a vehicle in the 6100 block of South Kimbark when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, striking the boy in the right shoulder. The driver took him to the University of Chicago Medical Center and he was transferred in critical condition to Comer Children's Hospital.

Additionally, a Chicago Police officer shot and seriously wounded a man brandishing a gun at the Puerto Rican Festival in Humboldt Park Sunday night on the West Side, police said.

Maybe it sounded like a high powered assault rifle.

A few years back in Detroit, an elderly black woman who witnessed (or at least heard) a drive by shooting said "it sounded like an AK-47".

It's scary to see how our MSM has trained the American public to accept the term "assault weapon" and never question the media's use of the term. The same goes for the evil AK-47......

I have a nice M-1 U.S. carbine manuf. by Standard Products circa. 1944. I wonder why that's not considered an "assault weapon", or maybe it is and I never got the memo......
