Yep, the AC goes on when it strikes 85F outside.
Right now at midnight it’s 112 in Needles, CA.
Do you live in or near Needles. Been thru there many times.
Thank kill-coal obama for this. The 2 coal plants in the 4 corners one of which sent a majority of their output to so cal are both now down to half of their active units trying to convert the other half to natural gas to comply with the new epa regs. Hope they black out, not brown out. One of the mines feeding the plants just laid off half their miners. Maybe they can get jobs on hollywierd fanning the elites there.
Some LA area utility plants have given special disepation from the state to burn diesel fuel because of all the natural gas fields they shutdown. I think it only cost them a million in fines.
No, other side of the country. Stayed a few days there late one August years ago. 95 at midnight was typical.
I remember it being that hot in 1985 Arizona. We were on vacation and it WAS hot, hot, hot!
The gas stations got in a load of fuel (Gas or diesel) designed for winter and it caused cars and trucks everywhere to vapor lock.
Now I think of it, it was that hot in 1984 Eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas! 116 degrees!
Fire up the oven, dryer and arc welder at 3 pm! They won’t make more generating capacity if the demand isn’t there!!!
If only there was a clean, steady, reliable power source they could use......
Something like coal or nuclear power...
Up the river in Laughlin/Bullhead City...122 degrees forecast for tomorrow...stay in the casinos!! ;-) Stayed in a Laughlin RV park one summer...was about 113 degrees...water supply was in an above ground tank, no need for the hot water faucet in the shower, just run the “cold” for a nice warm shower!

Midnight comes early in Needles.
I’ve got an Idea, California.
I lived there for ten years - I was the only I knew or saw that had a clothesline in my back yard - indeed many communities FORBID the use of clotheslines - they dont’ ‘look nice’
So keep using those dryers, folks - and then whimper about brown outs...
Yep, Needles is on “FR HQ time” (PDT)...still about 103 at 10:10pm...

The Eighties were insanely hot in Arizona. I moved here in 1981 and the number of days at 114 plus were ridiculous. We went nearly a decade without a spring, just went straight to summer around Easter.
Since then we've had lovely spring seasons. Summers are still hell.

From the book, Collateral Crimes:
.
Jonathan brought out the first aid kit and the tequila, and carefully unwrapped the bandage on her leg.
Jesse grabbed the bottle and said, Hell, Im bored. I cant stand being stuck in this cave. She unscrewed the lid on the bottle of orange drink and turned the tequila bottle upside down over the mouth of the bottle. The tequila poured in with a chug-chug-chug sound. She put the lid back on the bottle and shook it, opened the drink spout, and squeezed a stream of mixed drink into her mouth. She coughed and handed the bottle to Jonathan.
Jonathan said, No, thank you.
Why not? Theres nothing else to do. Maybe it will take our minds off this awful humidity. She raised her arms, exposing dark rings of sweat running down her shirt.
I dont drink.
I dont either. I mean I drank a lot when I was in college, but not much anymore. She held the bottle out again. Come on, just this once?
No thank you.
Suit yourself.
Jonathan said, Oh, what the hell, and grabbed the bottle. He took a small squirt and made a face. Why do people like this crap?
Its better with real orange juice.
Jonathan took another squirta generous amount. He sat back and in a moment felt relaxed for the first time since he left California. They passed the bottle back and forth and after a while the orange drink cocktail tasted pretty good. Finally when Jonathan squeezed the bottle, nothing came out. He tilted the bottle back and managed to coax a few more ounces. He tossed the bottle aside and said, I guess we drank it all, turned to Jesse and said, May I ask you something?

Actually, a new gas fired power plant build in the Palm Springs area is picking up the slack for San Onofre nuke plant that went off line. It has more capacity than it has been running. It is a peaker plant.
Wyoming is a big place, and your home page is under the Colorado flag, but it sure beats parts of CA.
Everyone wants to live in Southern California.
Lousy tax policy, crowded roads, hordes of illegals, astronomical cost of living... all for a bit of sunshine and a few beaches.
Go figure.
I have a clothesline and use it.
