I was 17, pregnant, and getting married the next day, carrying boxes and clothes out of the house to the new apartment. He stopped me in the carport on the way out and said, “Remember, you won’t ever be coming home again.” Scary words at the time... But he meant whatever happened I’d have to work out my own problems... Ain’t no going back home. It made me grow up.

Thanks. You confirmed what I suspected. I suppose farmers would be shooting at crows, trying to get rid of them. I like crows and they happen to be highly intelligent. Their brain to body weight ratio is the same as humans.

I don’t think he meant to direct that to you. My guess is that it’s something his father used to say to him.

One thing about Dad was that if we had to be punished for something, once he did punish you it was as if it had never happened and the slate was clean. He always made it clear we were loved even when we were being somewhat unlovable.
