It’s a cultural thing. In that culture, telling on your husband is worse than him massacring people, especially gay people. She would be expected to maintain silence.
She naturally thought everyone would understand that she didn’t want to oppose her husband, no matter how many people died. It’s just not done.

Obviously, somebody splained her how much trouble she was in.
