America’s always been awash in firearms. What has changed since the 80’s?””

What has changed. When I was in HS and hunting season came around, kids came to school with rifles in their gun racks. Not a single person ever mentioned it. At 21, you could buy dynamite and caps in the hardware store. We simply wallowed in freedom, and loved it. I was stopped once by the county Sherriff and town policeman, for drunk, underage driving, 40 miles over the town limit. My bud and I had to dump out the wine and beer and were told in no uncertain language to not be seen in town again that night. I got a ticket for speeding. I had to go to court and they suspended half the fine—it cost me $20. These LEOs were our friends and protectors. We loved them. This was freedom lost, forever.

I was the same way. Kept varmint rifles and shotguns in trunk and always went hunting after school. In college, I kept everything in my dorm room. While in high school I routinely bought dynamite and fuse to blow stumps on our ranch. No one ever said anything about it. Look how far we’ve fallen since the ‘60’s.
