Each of the Baltic states and Poland will shortly host 1,000 or so NATO soldiers to deter Russian aggression, the Western alliance has said.
We will agree to deploy by rotation four robust multinational battalions in the Baltic states and in Poland. This will send a clear signal that NATO stands ready to defend any ally, NATO head Jens Stoltenberg told press in Brussels on Monday (13 June).
He said the battalions are part of a much bigger shift in our posture in reaction to Russias behavior in Ukraine. [ ]
The bigger shift includes a rapid reaction force of 40,000 troops and warehouses of pre-positioned US tanks in the region.

The USA currently has one Company deployed in each of the three small Baltic nations.
In my opinion, a Company, or a Battalion, or a Division, so what?
When Putin marches in, the end result is already known.
A bunch of NATO white guys on their knees, with their hands on top of their heads.
“When Putin marches in, the end result is already known.”
We all have much more to fear from domestic alphabet agencies than Putin Khan at the gates.
A speed bump if I ever saw it...
I can go back through years of FR posts and find my theory that Putin will attempt to take Gdansk. He will do it the same way he took South Osetia. He will unload trucks of blank Russian passports, then, he will have to protect the Russian citizens from the mean Poles and absorb the territory in to Kalingrad. If he does it, he has to do it before Obama leaves. Obama will do nothing.
Not gonna happen. Putin isn’t stupid.
That being said, Poland should know better than to rely on others for her security.
If anyone expects the UN to protect them, there goes the neighborhood.
Yeah, we didn’t do much for Georgia or Ukraine (or Rwanda, where 100 troops would have saved hundreds of thousands).
