If it weren’t for Hitler, Merkel would go down as the most disastrous German leader in modern history.

Actually, Hitler's policies boosted the German standard of living and lead to a thriving economy. The influence of British, American, French, and Russian "economic spending" during the years 1941-1945 made a sudden turnaround in employment and immigration.

There should be a Department of Prevention with a say over anything bad that may happen. It’s office can be next to the Department of Wishful Thinking.

Yes, I know that he helped pull Germany out of the Depression. I was talking about certain of his very negative choices and military strategies that left the country in utter ruins at the end of the war and millions of its people of all backgrounds dead, injured, or starving. I would call that extremely damaging overall.
