Funny, I am of German decent and a little Scotch throne in, my ancestors came over during the Revolutionary War , paid fighters that went to farming. Actually they were Hessians and General Washington supposedly gave them a cow and 13 acres of land if they didn’t fight. ( not sure of that but that’s what I’ve been told)

5,000 Hessians stayed on and became Americans after the Revolutionary War, Pennsylvania already being 1/3 German. Continental Congress considered offering them 50 acres if they would desert the Redcoat army but I don’t know if that went through.
