No link as yet. TV stations have broken to news that Muhammad Ali had died.
Here in SoCal we have Mike Trout playing for the Angels. A once in a decade player, he’ll remind you of Mickey Mantle at Mantle’s peak. Not a braggart. A great kid who is a credit to the game and his family.
I like Mike Trout... quite a different kid than Bryce Harper.
I see you guys now have Tim Lincecum on your staff! I’m a Giants fan, and we miss him already. He’s a good kid and a tremendous talent. My son and I were at the game in his rookie year when he broke the 200K mark.
I’m not as familiar with the Angels (and still try not to think about 2002, lol). We have a few on the Giants who are quiet and complete pros: Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner (when he’s not throwing a little stink-eye), Brandon Crawford, Joe Panik (master of the improvised DP from the dirt), Matt Duffy, Angel Pagan (who still salutes when he gets on base to honor his Army veteran dad), Hunter Pence, Matt Cain, and Kelby Tomlinson (the team’s Swiss Army knife and who is a twin of my son :) ).
Even recently former Giants like Ryan Vogelsong (quiet and tough, and recovering from a horrible eye injury from catching 92 on his face). Casey McGehee, who lost his spot at 3B to rookie Duffy (and the first rookie recipient of the Willie McCovey Award), told him during what must have been a bitterly disappointing departure, that he shouldn’t feel bad about winning the spot.
That whole clubhouse discourages braggarts, and it’s resulted in a marvelous baseball experience. BTW, that’s why it was such a shock when closer Santiago Casilla stalked off the mound when Bochy came to get him after he blew a save.
I also appreciate that the Warriors are a team of believers, and they’re as unselfish a team as I’ve seen on the hardwood. Basketball’s a different game than baseball, which is my favorite, but I watch it again because of the Warriors.
Ha, I didn’t mean to write so much, but I really appreciate it when pros treat the game, the fans, and each other with respect.
Nice to see you, Pelham. I’ll be sure to catch a few Angels games on my MLB app. :) Hope you have a great season, and that Timmy does well.
And you know this how?
Are you certain that he didnt accept Jesus in his last moment?
Sorry if that sounds judgmental but keeping a muslim name while claiming Christ seems at odds with true salvation.
Just look at our own "christian" president.
JMHO, FRiend.
Yep, Trout and Harper are on opposite ends when it comes to character. Talent is similar but I’m sure glad that we have the one that isn’t a narcissist.
“Im not as familiar with the Angels (and still try not to think about 2002, lol)”
We have a warm place in our hearts for you Giant fans, a worthy foe in our greatest triumph. That was one of the most exciting World Series that I’ve ever seen.
And we hope to treat Timmy Lincecum as well as you all did Bengie Molina when we loaned him to you. From what I hear Tim is just about ready to join the big club. We can sure use the help, it has been a brutal year for injuries.
I understand what you’re saying. The current occupant of the White House is actively working against Christians. He is actively hostile to Christianity.
I’m just saying that I hope he took that invitation to join our Father in Heaven. I believe he had a much better chance of repentance than Skippy.
Take care and thanks.
>>Yep, Trout and Harper are on opposite ends when it comes to character. Talent is similar but Im sure glad that we have the one that isnt a narcissist.<<
I am sure you do!I think Harper’s antics were a major factor in Matt Williams (another of my favorites) losing his managerial spot... he helped make that clubhouse a nightmare. I do think that Matt is better suited to be a coach at this point, though.
>>We have a warm place in our hearts for you Giant fans, a worthy foe in our greatest triumph. That was one of the most exciting World Series that Ive ever seen.<<
Oh boy, was it! Thank you very much :)
>>And we hope to treat Timmy Lincecum as well as you all did Bengie Molina when we loaned him to you.<<
We loved Benjie! What a talent! Timmy’s a special talent and a great guy. I truly hope he succeeds there. I know he wants to start, and our starting 5 is (knock knock) pretty well set. He’s a solid reliever, too. We’re all hoping we get him back for 2017, anyway :)
>>From what I hear Tim is just about ready to join the big club. We can sure use the help, it has been a brutal year for injuries.<<
That’s what I hear too. We’re familiar with epidemic injuries - last year (and 2013, too) was brutal. And now we’ve lost Pence for 8 weeks on that hammie tear. He’s the heart of the clubhouse, and no one busts it out in the field the way he does.
Have a great day!
There are a large number on these boards that like to judge people. There is further to that a contingent hell bent and smitten on being miserable in their lives and look down on others. Instead of a gracious farewell they feel it better to live in obscurity and in misery. To that I say eff em let them live miserable. To Ali I say farewell
Lol at the Bryce Harper hate
He is a fine young man who doesn’t play by the old PC rules of baseball and backs up his talk
Lord Jesus Christ, be merciful to Thy servant Cassius.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, amen.
He does back up his talk - he’s insanely talented. He’s not my cup of joe.
But no hate - just critical assessment.
Sure there was. His “antics” costing Matt Williams his job is a complete joke. Harper’s “antics” have been speaking his mind and not being PC in interviews with the media.
Matt Williams lost his job because he was a terrible manager, lost a series he shouldn’t have lost in ‘14 and despite a historic season from Harper failed to make the playoffs with a roster that was loaded in ‘15.
Just like Trump, Clinton, Cheney, and thousands of others.
I don’t hate Harper. Maybe I see that word in a different light than you do. I don’t wish him ill - he’s just not among my favorites. But being out here in CA, I’ll watch him more often online and become more familiar with him.
I agree. Matt’s managing of the 2014 series against the Giants was not well-executed at all. He did us a great favor in that way. I don’t think he’s cut out to be a manager - at least not now.
Yeah it is.
Screw the America hating draft dodging POS that lived under the protection this country afforded all the while slandering the USA.
My issue is more so with this line
“I think Harpers antics were a major factor in Matt Williams (another of my favorites) losing his managerial spot... he helped make that clubhouse a nightmare”
1) I am not sure what antics one would be referring to.
2) Williams was the reason that clubhouse was so tight. Dusty Baker has created a much better atmosphere
3) Haper was the only Nat to show up in the ‘14 series vs the Giants. Meanwhile Matt Williams blew games 2 and 4 with terrible pitching decisions
4) Williams, rather then learning from Bochy in the ‘14 series, stuck to his robotic script in ‘15 and badly underachieved.
I just find the narrative around Harper tired because the guy is very un PC and speaks his mind, thusly breaking the “unwritten” rules of baseball
Ah, thanks. I admit to being not as informed about this as I should have been. Sorry about that.
great boxer. picked the wrong faith.
One of the assistants at my dentist’s office has a son who played travel ball. One of the players on his team was Bryce Harper. She wasn’t exactly complimentary about Harper or his dad. In fact her words were something along the lines of big time a-holes and that Bryce didn’t fall far from the tree. No denying his skills but the Harpers believed that world revolves around them and this left a sour taste in some of the other players and their families.
One of my Marine buddies was from Louisville. He told me in 1962 that he had boxed against Clay in the Police Athletic League.
Clay/Ali had fawning press his entire life. Rocky Marciano was a better fighter.
