There was an F-106 crash like that. Pilot stepped out of the aircraft mid flight, plane corrected itself and bellied in to a field. Plane was recovered, repaired and put back into service.

He heard you say that...and now he wants to meet you...

WWII a crew bailed out of a B-17 losing altitude and on fire. The pilot trimmed the B-17 up for a slow decent then he bailed out. Well the the fire put itself out and the plane made a perfect wells up landing in a field. The plane was in almost perfect condition.

I’d guess it might be a mechanical failure.
We are expecting the military to make due with awful equipment and terrible conditions.
To: DCBryan1
That happened when they shook BO’s hand.
To: smokingfrog
The airplane looks sequestered. A perfect metaphor for the military under Obama.

Only
TWO questions:
1. Is the pilot OK?
2. Did it crash on top of a Marxist, Mooslim, Kenyan, Steaming Pant Load Sissy Boy Goat humping, Allah FUBAR screaming Sand Uyghur?

Based on the angle of the nose, that only looks like one piece.
Kind of like what happened to the cars in Dukes of Hazzard.

1. YES.
2. No.
BUT THERE'S ALSO BEEN A NAVY BLUE ANGEL CRASH this afternoon. There is still no word on that pilot's condition.
This crash occurred near Smyra, TN after a flyover of Nashville this afternoon. The crash occurred at roughly 3PM CDT.
From the news link:
"The identity of the pilot or injury information was not immediately available. A U.S. Navy spokesman confirmed about 3:30 p.m. that a Blue Angel jet was involved in an incident.:

When the jet was first fielded, they called it the “lawn dart.” When its single engine fails...

Much more unusual for fly-by-wire aircraft. Once the computer goes wonky the plane usually doesn’t stay straight and level. More likely to get a lawn dart.

The crash scene was at the wrong place.
The USAF usually hits targets much better than this.
