WSJ's Bret Stephens: Trump Must Lose So Badly That the GOP Voters 'Learn Their Lesson'
Mediaite ^ | May 29, 2016 | sam Reisman

Posted on 05/30/2016 7:41:31 AM PDT by Reno89519

Speaking to CNN's Fareed Zakaria Sunday afternoon, Wall Street Journal's Bret Stephens said that it was important for Donald Trump to lose the general election so utterly that the Republican party and its voters "learn their lesson" and never nominate someone like him ever again.

Stephens has been one of Trump's most outspoken conservative critics, writing in March, for instance, that Trump is essentially an amplified version of Barack Obama. Both men were "epic narcissists who see themselves as singularly suited to redeem an America that is not only imperfect but fundamentally broken," he wrote.

"The candidacy of Donald Trump is the open sewer of American conservatism," he wrote on another occasion.

"I most certainly will not vote for Donald Trump," Stephens told Zakaria, adding that he wanted to "make sure he is the biggest loser in presidential history" in a very long time.

Stephens continued: "It's important that Donald Trump and what he represents — this kind of ethnic quote 'conservatism' or populism — be so decisively rebuked that the Republican party, the Republican voters learn their lesson that they cannot nominate a man so manifestly unqualified to be president in any way, shape, or form."

LOL

I believe Hillary granny Benghazi Clinton, is going to be the one with ‘regrets’...

She all ready is saying ‘if she could have a do over’ well she can't and she will finally pay for all the crime, thief, and wrong she has done in her life time...at least her Professional Political life time...It will be a great day in America when the Clinton's stand in a Court of Law, and plea for their future.

Remember Granny ...NO ONE is too big or to small to have to pay the price of wrong doing...

I always like what Trump said but didn’t like the way he said it

That seems to be the problem for some of the people that I know. The cursing and name-calling bothers them. People havent before seen presidential candidates who speak like that in public. By November, maybe a lot of them might be more used to it. We'll see. Trump seems to think that he has to speak that way to show that he's not politically correct.

was it right or wrong for Republican party leadership in Louisiana to push for the election of a known criminal named Edwin Edwards over the GOP nominee David Duke, a former Democrat and repugnant man?

Edwards won and eventually was again tried with crimes and went to federal prison.

Democrat voters elected a man “manifestly unqualified” the last 2 times,so what are they crying about?

As well the phrase ties in with progressive agitprop that brands mainly Conservatives and Conservative Christians as domestic terrorists:

"Law enforcement officials and the watchdog groups that track the self-styled “patriot” groups call them anti-government extremists, militias, armed militants or even domestic terrorists. Some opponents of the largely white and rural groups have made fun by calling them “Y’all Qaeda” or “Vanilla ISIS.” (Primed to Fight the Government, Washington Post)

The WSJ in the past year has made itself worthless with its Never Trump BS!

Rupert Murdock?....Murdock's spokesmen...Kristol, Bret Stephens, Steve Hayes, George Will.....all toe-the-Murdock-establishment-line....so much they would not mind a Hillary presidency making a thoroughly Liberal/Marxist Supreme Court.....Hillary is as Socialist as Bernie...at least he is honest about it....the Clintons have covered up that fact...

Those at the top of a Socialist government live like kings...on other people's money...

The latter is exactly what the “party elders” did in Virginia to Ollie North, when they funded the run of Marshall Coleman...

The GOPe directly led to the election of Obama when they didn't back Alan Keyes financially in 2004.

The writing was on the wall way back then on the attitude of the 'party elders'.

“Maybe these clowns figure they will make more money and be more popular with Hillary in the White House...”

B-I-N-G-O !!

Many years ago now, I worked with attorneys who were bringing suit vs the late Edward M. Kennedy and the Democrat Party in MA. As we solicited support from various well-known “conservative” entities, we were met with, in essence: “are you kidding? Kennedy is our cash cow!” Slight, but only slight, paraphrase. ‘Twas a real eye-opener. The few “journalists” who tried to help by covering the story found themselves in media Siberia.

I STRONGLY urge all Trump supporters to cancel all subscriptions to the WSJ they might have and demand immediate refunds. You know, so WSJ will lean their lesson.

Re: “I don’t think Republicans support massive legal immigration.”

I strongly disagree.

Since the year 2000, almost 15 million LEGAL immigrants have entered the USA.

We had a Republican president for half that time, and we controlled both Houses of Congress for more than half of that time.

Here at Free Republic, for the last few years, I am usually the only Commenter on immigration threads who even mentions reducing the number of LEGAL immigrants.

I’m wondering if now that the former governor of New Mexico, Gary Johnson, is the Libertarian candidate if that party actually has a chance of winning the boasted 11% on election day. Here is their Platform for your review.
