A country is defined by its values, it’s the glue that binds the people together. The libertarians are loathe to push values on anyone, therefore you end up with a constituency with such diverse values that it simply can’t be held together. Libertarians run the gamut from libertine democrats to amoral republicans to anarchists.
Herding cats is an appropriate analogy.
