Part of the deal was that Henry Ford paid my great grandfather for consulting work, when Henry Ford’s men built the replica courthouse, which was part of the original purchase agreement.

Well, that's all pretty fascinating family history. I Googled and did learn a little about what happened, but the site I read was a little rambling and difficult to follow. It might be interesting to you if you haven't seen it before.

Mr. Lincoln, Route 66...

I just have to ask, why were people being born in the courthouse?

Good question(s).

It was no longer a courthouse, and back then, people just weren’t that tuned in to Abraham Lincoln’s legacy. My grandparents are referred to in the history books as being a poor family that called the courthouse their residence while they owned it.

Excellent research on your part.

Darold Leigh Henson, Ph.D., is pretty much a legend in my hometown for the tome he created, regarding the history of one- Lincoln, IL.
