Central IL, is my home turf.
Lincoln, IL, formerly Postville, is named for Abraham Lincoln, by Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln practiced law in the Postville Courthouse. Henry Ford came to town and bought the original courthouse. Dumb city officials fell all over themselves to please Henry Ford, and sold it to him. Now- there is only a replica.
New Salem is a reconstructed pioneer village where Lincoln lived and worked. It’s near Petersburg, IL.
The Abraham Lincoln Library, is one half of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Complex. There is also a museum.
Lincoln’s residential home is in Springfield, as well as his tomb, at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Portions of Route 66 still exist, and the Cozey Dog Drive Inn, is good for a nostalgic meal on Route 66, on the south side of Springfield.
And I’ll be heading that way Father’s Day weekend!!
Thanks for the tips. We intend on spending a day or two down that way in the coming week.
And what did Henry Ford do with the original? Did he have it reconstructed somewhere?
