As kid in the early fifties, the real treat after a full day at the old Smithsonian was at a soda fountain news stand. Fried chicken in a little gray cardboard box. The bottom was fully grease soaked by the time we walked home. Almost the best fried chicken ever. Fast food wasn’t even a concept back then. Closest things were the five and dime lunch counters and one or two of the big drug stores.
